My passion is meeting new people and gaining life experiences.
This became my passion after I participated in Environmental Traveling Companions last summer. At first, this program seemed a little intimidating since I had never been away from home for that long. However, I formed strong relationships with people my age who came from different backgrounds and had different interests. I am proud of myself for being vulnerable and opening my heart to new things.
Attending Summer at Brown will enhance this passion because I will be given the opportunity to travel to Rhode Island and meet people with similar interests. Coming from a low-income family, participating in programs like these seem impossible. Being a part of this program will give me the knowledge I'll need when I apply to college not far from now.
"Andrea works passionately and persistently to ensure the learning growth of herself and others in her classes. She is the most helpful and encouraging peer tutor I've ever seen. She has taken such ownership of ensuring the success of her peer community that I have come to rely on her to be sure all students meet our learning targets.
Our school, Leadership Public Schools- Richmond, is in an impoverished and historically oppressed neighborhood in Richmond, CA. Andrea, as she has mentioned, is from a hard-working, but low-income family, and has had limited experience outside of the neighborhood until very recently. By being exposed to east coast culture, a variety of new people, and life on an Ivy League campus, Andrea's horizons will be infinitely broadened."
I was granted the opportunity to go to Brown University this summer. It was such a life-changing trip since I was able to live on campus and take a psychology course. I was able to make strong relationships with people who had different backgrounds and learn from them greatly. It was definitely a new experience and I'm so grateful for being able to do this as I embark my senior year. Thank you for everyone who made this possible.
I will be taking a psychology course at Summer@Brown. I am thrilled to study this in a college environment since it will prepare me for college next year and it will open my horizons to new, exciting things. This course is really interesting to me because I want to pursue a career involved with children, and this class focuses mainly on children and adolescents. I know that this will definitely prepare me for my future job and if I decide later on to explore other possibilities, I'm sure this opportunity will have a lasting impact in my life. This will be the first time flying to the East Coast from California, and that can be very intimidating. However, this experience will only allow me to become more independent. I can't wait to talk all about it soon. Thank you for catching up with me and my journey to Brown this summer.

I remember my first camp away at a college campus the summer after 8th grade. In a similar situation, I had to work to raise money. I know that opportunity shaped me and helped me achieve my successes later in life. I hope this opportunity helps you!
