Lezley's Story

My passion is medicine.

Ever since I was in middle school I knew I wanted to be in the medical field. I became particularly interested in nursing because of my grandmother. Every time I would go visit my grandmother at the hospital, I would see how much the nurses cared for her with no hesitation. I want to be like those nurses. The whole idea fascinates me. I liked how the nurses gave their whole attention to their patients, were mature about their duties, and didn't judge. They were patient but quick at what they were doing all the time. I hope to be able to obtain valuable nursing principles in this program.

Attending the NSLC Medicine and Healthcare program will help me pursue my passion for nursing because it will teach me valuable skills that I can use later on in life. For instance, students in the program practice real operations on animals and get a detailed insight of what it's like to be in an operation room. In my opinion, this will help me a lot because I know that nurses often do sutures on patients, therefore with this practice, I will be able to learn the proper ways to do them. Furthermore, the NSLC Medicine and Healthcare program will help me learn medical examinations, diagnose patients, and give treatments. These practices are essential for my future as a nurse, because nurses have the authority to diagnose conditions and do some medical examinations like screening. Overall, assisting this program will definitely teach me crucial information I will need as a nurse.
