My passion environmental science. For my entire life, I have felt trapped by the inner city. I’m surrounded by cement instead of trees. I walk down polluted streets to and from school. Yet, these obstacles haven’t stopped me from being devoted to environmental science. I discovered my interest in science through the classes I have taken at school. I have enjoyed my physics, biology, and chemistry classes because they provide opportunities for me to engage with peers and to better understand not just how, but why the natural world is evolving the way it is. In addition, my school’s hiking club has granted me the opportunity to experience places I would never get to see and learn more about the environment and how to protect it from industrialization.
SEACAMP will help me pursue my passion for environmental science because I'll get to live in a whole new environment and have first-hand experience with organisms found in the wild that I am not used to being around. I hope to learn more about how these animals interact with the marine environment. I look forward to pursuing my passion through SEACAMP and determining if my future consists of becoming a marine scientist.
Betzy is passionate about the environment and protecting the world we live in. Despite having limited resources, I have seen Betzy take an interest in issues ranging from global warming to water conservation and recycling. She takes on the issues both through projects and clubs in school but also through social media and spreading awareness at our school.
Betzy is a great candidate for SEACAMP because she is the type of student who just needs the resources to be able to grow in her skills. She already has the passion and interest which leads to curiosity and growth but she requires the time, skills, and expertise. This program would serve as a bridge to take Betzy from just being curious to truly having the power to impact others in her community.
