My passion is Social Justice.
When I was younger there was a girl that was being bullied by other children. The girl was very shy which stopped her from speaking up for herself. I watched the girl get bullied and it hurt me a lot to see this girl cry every day. Once I got the courage to tell the teacher and to confront the children about the bullying. After I resolved the situation I saw how much happier the girl was. A few years later I found out what I did was bring justice to someone. I later learned this is what lawyers do, and then I fell in love with law.
Attending NSLC Law & Advocacy program will help me explore my passion because I will be able to sit through a whole case. This program will help me with my future law career. NSLC Law and Advocacy program will help me determine if law is in my future. With this program I am for the first time able to see if law is really for me. This is very significant because it will be terrible for me to want to be a lawyer and not ever have any experience with it before attending college.
Kenyetta is an inquisitive, analytical, and confident learner. Having taught her in the 8th grade, observed her growth in the 9th grade, and now teaching her again in the 10th grade, what is most exciting about Kenyetta is the enormous growth she has made, both personally and intellectually. While she has always been curious and confident, she has channeled those innate traits into a deep desire to learn and grow as she gets older. In the classroom, Kenyetta has become a true leader. Her curiosity has developed into an intellectual inquisitiveness that makes her truly stand out amongst her peers, and her confidence is no longer merely a social confidence, but the confidence of a bold analytic thinker who is willing to take intellectual risks and lead her peers. Kenyetta is passionate about learning, and in particular, studying law in college. She has a keen sense of morality and justice that she wants to explore from an intellectual perspective. Despite not having the means to participate in any pre-law extracurricular programs, she is passionate about learning and absorbing as much as she can in High School so that she will one day have the ability to attend the college of her dreams where she can take pre-law classes.
Kenyetta is a true leader in the classroom; not only is she diligent and focused, she is truly a leader of her peers. In particular, she excels in seminar-style classes which require analyzing complex ideas through dialogue. She skillfully plays devil's advocate, debates her peers, and completes outside research to back up her points so that she will excel in class seminars and discussions. She is undoubtedly a verbal learner who is learning this year to use her voice effectively and thoughtfully to compel others. What is most exciting about NSLC is its commitment to interactive learning and using the courtroom as a classroom; for Kenyetta, there is no better way to learn. She is passionate about pursuing a pre-law degree in college, which makes her an excellent fit for this program, and she will additionally benefit from and truly flourish in an interactive learning environment. While passionate about law, Kenyetta has never before had the opportunity to participate in courtroom simulation, and so this program will open opportunities to her that she's never had before. Kenyetta is a young woman who has grown and matured immensely in the last three years, and I therefore believe without a doubt that this program will further and create new opportunities for her personal and intellectual growth.
It truly is an honor to be an instrument used in your journey. May God bless and keep you always.
