My passion is Fitness.
I discovered my passion for fitness when I was in 5th grade. I've always liked bike riding and things like that, but my family was always working or too tired. One day, I went to the gym with my uncle and I loved it. Thus, gym rat Yazmin was born. I would beg my dad to take me to the gym, and he would take me even after working all day.
Joining Nike Volleyball Camp will help explore my passion for fitness by getting me out on the court and moving. Volleyball was one of the things that got me into fitness. I love the healthy feeling after a game when you know you have been working hard. The beads of sweat rolling down my skin make me feel like I've accomplished something big. I've recently joined my school's volleyball team and I want to push myself to do better at Nike Volleyball Camp.
"Passion, joy, grit, intellectual independence, creativity, empathy, fearlessness: these are the qualities I admire most in Yazmin. I've seen Yazmin demonstrate her passion for fitness during her physical education class at school. For the first few months of the year, students did not have a gym to work out in, so P.E. took place outside in a hot alleyway. Although many of her peers used this less-than-ideal situation as an excuse not to participate, Yazmin made the most of her time. She worked tirelessly on her volleyball moves and convinced a number of peers to join in. This is classic Yazmin: working hard, having fun, and inspiring the people around her."
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to attend Nike Volleyball Camp this summer! I was there for an entire week and got to stay in a dorm with 3 roommates on the UC Santa Cruz campus. Every morning at 8am, all 90 of us had to be outside and ready to go to breakfast. After breakfast, we had a 20 minute hike to the nearest gym, in which we played games and practiced in. After the first session, we had lunch, break time, and then session 2. I feel like we all ate a lot there because the food was really good haha. There was a day in the week where we spent a night at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk which was fun because I saw some dolphins. Attending the camp was a very eye opening experience for me because I realized that I was one of the only Latino/Hispanic student there (Beside one other girl who was also there through Wishbone, whom I became friends with). At first I felt a bit out of place because almost everyone was white or Asian and then there was me. Don't get me wrong, I made a lot of friends, including one from Tokyo, Japan. I would have felt better if there was more people like me. I think this experience helped me because it made me realize that I need to push myself and my friends harder to get to places that others wouldn't expect us to get to. It also gave me a glimpse of what life on a college campus would be like. I know I said this about 300 times but, thank you!
This summer I am going to be taking part in Nike's Volleyball Camp thanks to you and the Wishbone team. I am really excited to go because I know I will gain a lot of experience. These experiences wont just be for the court, but for me personally. I will learn more about teamwork and hopefully meet new people. I am also really excited to be staying there overnight and being at the beach. I have never played volleyball in the sand so I can't wait for that. There aren't many opportunities for me to practice at home so this will be perfect. I believe that this program will help me explore who I am and who I want to be and that is why it's perfect.
