Leslie's Story

My passion is psychology.

The very first time I heard about psychology I was in middle school, in my Citizen Schools program. I remember it was career day and they began explaining what psychology was. They explained to us that psychology was a way to reveal how humans think and function, this fascinated me. To know that psychology has a lot of unanswered questions is so strange and interesting to me. Throughout my middle school years and now I've been thinking what I would do with a major in psychology because there are many careers within psychology that are compelling. However, I am mostly interested in psychology within media and advertising because social media has become more popular and it’s something that’s all around us.

A Note from Mrs. Maldonado, Leslie's Teacher

Leslie's passion to learn about psychology has been evident throughout the 3 years I have known her. Being in AVID requires students to discuss their career goals and create a plan. Leslie has always shown interest in a career in psychology.

Leslie is a hard working student. Throughout the 3 years I have known her she has always showed her determination to succeed. She is a perfect example of what AVID (Advancement Via Individual Determination) stands for. As an AVID teacher, I am always communicating with the student's teachers. I always hear great things from her teachers as well. I know that if she is accepted to the program, she will work hard and learn a lot.

NTLP Experience

I had a great time participating in NTLP. The weekend I spent there was filled with many activities that I will value a lot. Those activities taught me a lot about myself and the friends I made there. I am glad I was able to experience a little of the college lifestyle by staying in the dorms.

Pre Attendance of National Teen Leadership Program

I am going to be participating in the National Teen Leadership Program in July. I am really excited to attend this program because it will help me develop leadership skills I can use in school and outside of school. I’m also excited to meet new people from around the bay area who I can share ideas and advice with. Additionally, through this program, I will be able to explore a university campus. I believe that participating in this program will help me focus more on careers that involve leadership roles.
