My passion is poetry.
Poetry became my passion due to the fact that my mother loved books. My mother, while in Guyana, read many books to satisfy her boredom, and she also read them to me. One day, she read a poetry book to me about nature, and it made me feel like I could express my feelings through poetry. At my school, I was president of a club called W.O.R.D. Every week, we met and flushed out our feelings in order to write a poem the following week. Then, I started attending poetry slams in Manhattan and reading my poetry to people in my age group. This ultimately made me feel as though poetry is the right path for me.
By attending St. Joseph's Summer Program, I know that I will receive the best experience with different people and different programs. St. Joseph's seems to be the best fit for me due to other students telling me that they grew as a student by participating in this program.
"Kezia is great fit for Summer Institutes at Saint Joseph's College due to her passion for and abilities in the area of creative writing. Kezia has not had the opportunity to participate in creative writing courses, so attending this program will open new doors for her. Additionally, meeting students with common interests will allow Kezia to expand her peer networks before attending college."
St. Joseph's was everything that I expected! When starting, I got to take HS Writing then Studio Art and Design and finally I took Psychology. My favorite course was Psychology because we were able to study the way people interact using their personalities and doing an experiments. We also did an experiment at the park to see people's reactions when you stand or sit too close to them. When you're in their conversations, there were many different reactions, some people walked away, and others talked to us by asking us questions, which was surprising. Another part of SJSI is that every week you get to attend a trip that you and your class pick. Most times it was an art gallery, where we got to do an analysis on what we thought the artist's point of making the piece was. All in all, St. Joseph's was a great experience and I'd like to thank everyone again for all of their donations!
Go forth & do GREAT things young lady!
I'm a poet. The world needs more young people that can express themselves with their words. It's powerful.
I know you have the ability to succeed with this opportunity granted to you, make the best of it.
