Rosaura's Story

My passion is nature.

I am passionate about nature. I discovered this passion when I joined this club called "Escape" we would go different places around the bay area. We would go hicking to places like Alamere falls, Mt. Diablo, Ano Nuevo, and once we went camping in Yosemite for 2 nights and 3 days. Going to these places made me fall in love with nature. How it's a different world without all these distractions. How you can truly be yourself and not be judged. Also because it makes you feel so alive and free.

Attending Outward Bound California will help me explore my passion by showing me how it feels being outdoors for a really long time. It would make experience a whole other world that I have yet to come across. Not only will this be a amazing adventure but it will be an enormous opportunity that doesn't come around very often. This experience can teach me many lesson that I have yet to learn. It will show me whether this will be a passion I'm willing to pursue in the future. Overall my passion for nature will just increase tremendously by just going.

A Note from Ms. Orenstein, Rosaura's Counselor

Rosaura is only a Freshman. She is currently, by applying to Wishbone and having the courage to go out into the wilderness, exploring her passion despite limited resources. Rosaura came into LPS with a completely new attitude then she had in middle school. She has incredible work ethic as shown by her impressive grades and her making the cheerleading squad. She is constantly in my classroom working during lunch, after and before school, while other students come just out hang out. She joined EPIC and also the outdoor club here at school-- it is clear she is doing everything she can to explore her passion from early on.

Rosaura has found other opportunities to travel locally and push herself to explore the outdoors. This means she is ready to take the next step-- to go on a backpacking trip with Outward Bound. Realizing that she can complete this adventure will do so much for Rosaura's confidence and expand her horizons. Living in Richmond, Rosaura has not has the chance to meet folks who are very different than she is. This type of exposure to newness and to students from different backgrounds would be life changing for her. She can also bring her open mind, her energy and generosity to the group, as well as her own

Outward Bound

I went backpacking for 2 weeks at the high sierras. It was such an amazing experience! We hiked through all different kinds of terrains such as steep, rocky, snowy, etc. During the trip I was faced with many challenges but with help of everyone in my group, I was able to overcome them.
