ashley's Story

My passion is medicine.

I discovered my passion for medicine by watching and observing my mother. She is a labor and delivery nurse, and she has told me many interesting stories about cases in the operating room. I am interested in becoming a pediatric surgeon, especially after hearing how effective they are in saving lives during such a delicate time. I have always loved children, but I have loved science even more. I am very proud of my mother, and her stories reaffirm how much I want to work in this field. I want to ensure that children are cured from any illnesses that we can control and fight, and help families maintain optimal health while their kids grow up. I understand the commitment and fortitude that is needed for this career and that has only fueled my passion more.

Attending Emory University Pre-College Program will give enlightenment on what to expect in a real college setting. The courses provided in the program are a precursor for college, and will enhance my knowledge around my desired career path. The courses are designed to create enthusiasm for research and to help students understand what school will look like if they pursue this career. This program will give me the opportunity to network with other students from culturally diverse backgrounds who have similar medical interests. It would be a dream to have this opportunity, so thank you.
