Jesus's Story

My passion is defending others.

I discovered my passion for the art of defense of others simply due to the society I live in today. I see how the police brutality, separation of migrant families, field workers' rights, and sexism have impacted my community negatively. I feel that if I can defend a person so they can continue to live happily, I have done my job.

I believe attending Education Unlimited American Legal Experience: Mock Trial will help me explore my passion in a variety of ways. This program can help me have the ability to use my charming and loquacious personality as an advantage to become a better scholar and lawyer for the future. I also believe that the program will have me become not only even more polished in my professional and communication skills, it will help me shape my independence as an individual in the transformation of being a young boy to a young adult.

"Jesse is a perfect fit for this program because he comes from a colorful and diverse background and is dedicated to his community and family. He is a proud Latino young man who is willing to speak up for himself and also for others. He is social justice-oriented and looks at every situation from an equity lens. At the moment, Jesse is working on a college research project and chose a news article about the lack of diversity on college campuses to highlight and share with his class. He believes that all students, all people, have the right to an equitable and fulfilling life. This Mock Trial experience will certainly help Jesse improve and hone his public speaking skills, so that he can truly pursue advocating on the behalf of others who do not have the opportunity to advocate for themselves. I cannot recommend Jesse for this experience enough; please do not pass him up."
