Kacie's Story

My passion is cooking.

I first discovered my passion in elementary school. I first started off at a private school, and the lunch I was given there was all home cooked food. I used to look forward to lunch because the food the lunch lady made was so amazing. The lunch lady was born and raised in Trinidad, which played a big role in the way she cooked. The food she made tasted very different than what I would’ve had in other restaurants. Before we got our food, we had to say prayers. Unlike most days, we had a chance to watch the lunch lady prepare the food. While watching, I realized that cooking wasn’t a simple process, but rather a work of art. From then on, I wanted to be a part of this work of art.

Attending ICC Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens will help my development in my passion because it’ll help me in my future job of culinary arts. Attending this program will help me develop different kitchen skills that I’ll probably wouldn’t get the chance to learn elsewhere , and I would get an opportunity to broaden my knowledge on how to cook different foods. Also, I’ll learn to communicate with others around me, which helps build my character. Overall, the Culinary Cooking Camp for Teens will help me exceed in my cooking and partnership.

A Note from Ms. Taylor, Kacie's Teacher

Kacie is friendly, curious, and excited about learning. She bubbles with enthusiasm; I can already picture how excited she will be to describe to me her wonderful experiences at ICC cooking camp. Whether Kacie turns her passion for cooking into a career or not, learning more about food and cooking will positively influence her life and her family. In addition, the experience of being in an immersive environment with other teens who share her passion will help her further develop her social skills and independence.
