Kiara's Story

Despite growing up in a community infused with gang violence, Kiara is resolved to not let other people determine her worth. Science is Kiara’s main interest in high school. She is fascinated by all scientific subjects, but biology became her favorite over the years. She constantly searches for new knowledge. Even when her family watches television, she always changes the channel to National Geographic!

Kiara wanted to pursue biology at a more intensive level than was offered at her high school, and discovered the Stem Cell Science Program at UCLA, a rigorous UCLA class offered to high schoolers to introduce them to the world of Stem Cell research. The program will push her understanding of the latest scientific discoveries while studying alongside other bright high school students. She hopes to engage, challenge, and discover theories and experiments of stem cell research and practice.
