My passion is creating art.
I really became interested in art when I was introduced to modern and impressionist art. I was excited to learn that there was no limit to the variety of styles of art, and that I could paint and draw in a style that expressed my emotions through creativity. Soon after this discovery, art became more than a hobby; it became a passion. Ever since then, I have been working to improve my art skills through workshops at Mercy College, after school art programs, and summer art programs so that I will be able to enhance my drawing and painting abilities, go to an art based college, and get a job in the field of art as an adult.
Attending Parsons Summer Intensive Studies: New York will help me explore my passion by giving me the opportunity to experience firsthand what it's like to be a successful student at an art school. I am looking forward to illustrating and working with graphic and digital design. Participating in Parsons Summer Intensive Studies will also help me explore different options in art careers through guest lectures. Attending this program will help me get closer to becoming the fine artist I want to become.
"I have known Yarilee since she was a freshman, when she exhibited her paintings and collages at our first annual gallery opening at the Doosan Gallery in Chelsea. She is currently the only junior taking my Advanced Art Portfolio course. Yarilee is, without a doubt, the most dedicated art student we have at our school. Although she is talented, she is also humble, and when other students say they wish they could draw as well as she does, she always talks about how much practice has gone into her skills and how far she still has to go. Art supplies are incredibly expensive, but Yarilee never lets that prevent her from making art constantly. I have seen her make gorgeous, creative pieces using found materials like cardboard and magazine paper.
I have never met an artist Yarilee's age who asks so eagerly for feedback and what she could do to improve. The guidance and teaching of experienced professors at Parsons will be the perfect opportunity for her to get to the next level she is striving for."
It has been amazing to watch Yarilee grow as a young woman and an artist over the past three years. I admire the work she puts in to her craft as an artist and am excited to help her follow her passion at Parson this summer.
