Dariela's Story

My passion is law.

I'm interested in law because I've always been the type to want equality and fairness because America is our home, and we need to make it safe and equal for all. I admire those who take up a career in law and use it to better our nation and not just for money purposes. I'm very persistent, and in this field, that's one of the traits you need have in order to be successful.

Attending Summer at Brown means that I'm able to experience forensic science and law and ultimately how closely they work together. Not only does this benefit my potential law career, but it gives me a better understanding of what it takes to pursue this career. This program will also give me an idea on how living on an actual college campus would be feel like. This is a great way to motivate myself to work even harder in school.

A Note from Ms. Ewing, Dariela's Teacher

"Dariela is passionate, persistent and motivated in her everyday school life, but the time I saw these traits most was on the softball field. We were a first year team, and we were terrible. However, Dariela's passion for the game and love of her teammates pushed her to keep practicing and growing as a player.

I'm very excited for Dariela to spend time away from Brooklyn this summer and to get to know peers as motivated and courageous as she is. She's insightful, pleasant to be around, and shows discovery in all that she does. She's constantly growing as a student and a person, and it'd be wonderful for her to have this unique experience that she can both learn from and share with others in our community. She is confident, strong-willed and loves to debate, and would benefit from exercising these qualities in a new and challenging environment."

My Time At Brown

Summer@Brown was such a life changing experience for me. I thought I was ready for college before, but after attending classes and bonding with the other kids, I realized that I'm ready to go! I loved every bit of it, and I learned far more than I thought I would. Taking the Forensic Science class at Brown was even more of an amazing experience since it was made up of such interesting topics and activities. The class definitely made me realize that Forensic Science is one of the things at the very top of my list to study in college. Furthermore, I bonded with students from across the world, and it was a little shocker for me to learn that they weren't so different from me. Here, in NY, there's not much opportunities to meet and bond with other kids outside your race, so I took advantage of that in this program. I'm so thankful for this opportunity and I wish I could re-live it. College isn't so far away and there's no doubt that Summer@Brown made me so much more motivated to study and do even better in school.
