Lola's Story

My passion is sewing.

When my family and I were living in Burundi, my sister was a tailor. She would take measurements and explore what kind of outfit a customer wanted. When I turned nine, I noticed fabric pieces in a big bag that my sister used for her remnants. They intrigued me, and I felt that i just had to make something. I didn't have a sewing machine so I threaded a needle and started to make clothes for my dolls. I loved sewing and wanted to learn even more.

Attending Creative Arts Workshop Adventures in Art will help me to continue my passion for sewing. There is so much to learn, and the chance to study under under such a knowledgeable faculty would be an opportunity to be exposed to the future of fashion. It would be so exciting to exchange ideas with other students who are following their dreams.

A Note from Mrs. Straub, Lola's Teacher

Lola has an excellent work-ethic and truly values education. An excellent student, there is no doubt that she would be an asset to this program.

Along with her passion for sewing, she has had experiences beyond those of many young girls her age. She would bring ideas to the classroom with her knowledge and appreciation of African fashion. She wants to learn as much as possible and will benefit greatly from the faculty teaching during the summer program.

Creative Arts Workshop Adventures in Art

I learned so much and had so much fun at the Creative Arts Workshop; it was a fantastic experience for me, and It made me realize my passion and to challenge myself for what I want to do in the future. The students were welcoming and well behaved, and I was the oldest student in the group. In the class we get to learn how to sew and little of sketching. At the end of the program I had sewn five pieces of clothing, all by myself!

pleaded skirt, she wanted to model my piece an it look lovely on her.

Creative Arts Workshop Adventures in Art

I am going to be participating in creative arts workshop this summer. I am very exited to attend the program because It will give me the knowledge about something I love to do, which is sewing. I think that this program will help me develop my ideas and finish the journey of sewing that I have started. I am looking forward to working with talented people that are the same age as I, sharing design, creativity and thought with one another. I chose this program because I've loved sewing since I was nine, and I want to learn more about sewing. There is so much to learn and the chance to study under such a knowledgeable faculty would be an opportunity to be exposed to the future of fashion.
