Joselin's Story

My passion is learning new things.

When I was little, I would tell everyone what I learned in school that day. Filling others with the information that I learned made me feel better. In a way, I felt selfish if I thought that I might know something that they didn't know about.

I will develop my passion by attending Squaw Valley Academy Summer School because I will open up to new experiences and challenges. While in this program, I will step out of my comfort zone to be able to learn new things. Everything that I experience will leave me with valuable lessons that I will carry into my future.

A Note from Ms. Farrand, Joselin's Teacher

"Joselin is a great match for Squaw Valley Academy Summer School because of her enthusiasm to learn and try new things that will better her as a person while bringing development to her community. I trust that Joselin will bring some kind of improvement to our school community. Joselin has both the vision and the will to learn."

My Unforgettable Summer at Squaw Valley Academy

Before going to Squaw Valley Academy this summer, I was nervous but more than that I was extremely excited. I was going away for three weeks to a boarding school called Squaw Valley Academy. At this school, I would be taking two academic courses which were SAT Math Prep and Pre Calculus. After classes, the students would go to activities like kayaking, hiking, rock climbing, horse back riding, and a lot more. When we came back from activities, we would have study hall for two hours where we would do homework and get any help we needed for our classes. After study hall, we would have afternoon activities where we would go to movies or other fun activities with the dorm parents and our classmates. After the first week, I was offered to stay for the whole six weeks they offered for the summer school thanks to an extra grant that covered most of the tuition. I knew that being away from home in a boarding school with great people and amazing experiences would be beneficial to me because I will be going off to college next summer. I had the support from my parents and I decided to stay. I am really happy that I decided to stay because I had a wonderful time at SVA while meeting new people who I will never forget. I am more than grateful for all of the people who helped me have one of the most amazing summers ever.

My dream come true at Squaw Valley Academy Summer School

The program I will be attending this summer is Squaw Valley Academy Summer School in Tahoe. One of my dreams has always been to attend a summer program where I can focus on my academics as well as do activities where I can be active. This is exactly what Squaw Valley offers to the summer students. During the morning, we will go to class, after we will have time to study, and in the afternoons we will do outside activities or explore the city. I expect to meet a variety of people and make great connections with them that I can carry on even after the program.

I plan on attending a college far away from home. Going away from home this summer to Squaw will help me know what it will be like when I go away for college. Like I mentioned before, it has always been my dream to attend this kind of summer program. When I had the chance to finally go to a summer program like this, I was extremely excited and did everything I could to guarantee I would go. Now that I have this opportunity, I cannot wait for the day to come when I go to Squaw. I know I will have an amazing time as well as create many amazing memories. I will always appreciate and be thankful for the people who helped me along the way to make one of my dreams come true.
